Perspicacity and changing the course of history: see St. Augustgreen.com re: St. Augustine National Historical Park, Seashore and Scenic Coastal Pkwy

It's been 26 years since (at age 26) I persuaded the US. Department of Energy to declassify the largest mercury pollution event in world history. We ran that story in the Appalachian Observer 26 years ago today and were recommended for a Pulitzer Prize by the District Attorney (It turns out there were 4.2 million pounds, not just 2.4 million pounds of mercury, a neurotoxin known as such since ancient times). That was a tort, a crime and a sin by the nuclear weapons complex, including Union Carbide, but no one was ever prosecuted by the Reagan/Meese Justice Department. Cleanup of nuclear bomb factories -- truly America's "killing fields" -- is ongoing and has created tens of thousands of green jobs. The cost exceeds $200 billion. Most importantly, it showed the world what one of Tom Clancy's characters said, "everything about nuclear weapons was evil.".

It's been 25 years since I helped put Anderson County, Tennessee Sheriff DENNIS O. TROTTER in federal prison.

It's been three years since we exposed the City of St. Augustine's illegal dumping in the Old City Reservoir of 40,000 cubic yards of solid waste, which is now being removed under state orders.

(See the Oak Ridger and St. Augustine Record newspaper editorials and columns below.)

It's always spurred me to work harder whenever some bully or bellyacher or bureaucrat archly says "Yul Nivver." See reprint below from September 3, 2007 www.cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com

Yul Nivver moments have happened to me numerous times in my career, spurring me to learn and do more to expose the unaccountable people who make life miserable for so many Americans (and other citizens of our planet).

It encourages me to see good people working for change as our Founding Fathers intended, including efforts to create a St. Augustine National Historical Park, National Seashore and National Scenic Coastal Parkway.

We've got spectacular support – bipartisan support – with more on the way.

In September, watch Ken Burns' documentary on "National Parks – America's Best Idea."

Meanwhile, talk to your family, friends and Come on along – we're going to have fun getting Congress to adopt St. Augustine National Historical Park, National Seashore and National Scenic Coastal Parkway in time for the 450th Anniversary of St. Augustine (2015) and the 500th anniversary of Florida (2013).
