Says enforcement is lax on excessive noise
Publication Date: 05/13/09
Editor: Living on State Road A1A, with the enormous amount of motorcycle traffic we have, gave me an appreciation for the May 11 letter to the Editor, "Motorcycles need safety laws, too."
Without question the loud noise created by an overwhelming majority of motorcycles on Florida roads is not only a violation of state laws, it's a disgrace on law enforcement for the non-enforcement of state motor vehicle noise laws.
It appears that "louder is better" in the mindset of the majority of the cycle riders, without regard to other drivers or property owners. We are forced to hear what these riders generate. What's worse is that these riders know that law enforcement will do nothing or very little to enforce the existing Florida Statute Title XXIII, Chapter 316.293, which prohibits the very excessive noise they are making.
If an automobile on the street made the same loud noise as these cycle riders do on their motorcycles, there's no doubt tickets would be issued. However, for the sake of revenue that the riders bring in, law enforcement look, or "hear" the other way, in my opinion. No doubt if citations were issued for these violations, the revenue generated would go a long way in helping solve Florida's budget deficit, enforce existing laws, and help create a more peaceful environment within Florida.

In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
