Letter: Tea Party is out to destroy America
Editor: The Tea Partiers who assembled in Tampa on Monday evening for the second in a series of carnival side shows called The Republican Presidential Debate revealed their truly hateful, self-centered identities when they applauded Ron Paul's inhumane response to the moderator's question about an uninsured person needing medical care with shouts of "Let him die."
Now, first, who is the most out of touch and perplexed Texan, Ron Paul or Rick Perry? (The truth is Politifact and its Truth-o-meter, an unbiased fact checker, found that most of what all the Republican-Tea Party candidates said to us and each other was mostly wrong, misleading or outright lies.) The country certainly doesn't need the leadership of either of these two myopic Texan politicians. However, the real concern is with this very vocal and xenophobic, jingoistic, christianist, selfish and unenlightened group of rabble rousers who don't understand the issues or concepts they shout about -- The Tea Party and all their permutations. They would prefer to shut down the government, let the economy collapse, enforce self righteous social re-engineering and marginalize the poor while perpetuating an "every-man-for-himself," uncharitable dogma of reaganesque Americanism. This is not America. This is not who we are. The Tea Party is a nihilistic, anarchic organization that is obstructionist and devisive, probably latently racist and ultimately, with their sheer ignorance and anti-intellectualism, a destructive force to American exceptionalism.
