Pre-reception scheduled for new Vilano Publix

A reception to celebrate the opening of the Vilano Beach Town Center and its anchor tenant, Publix, is set for 4 p.m. Jan. 12.

The event is open to the public. Atlantic Land Realty is hosting the event.

Community activists have worked for years to bring the town center to the area.

Acquiring a major grocer such as Publix was key to the development of the center, which is now slated to include a pizzeria and Chinese food restaurant, said Vivian Browning, who is one of the community leaders who helped head the project.

Publix is to open its doors on the morning of Jan. 14, though a time hasn’t been officially set.

The retail tenants are expected to open after Publix, Browning said.

Publix Supermarkets and North Shores Improvement Association officials broke ground on the project in January of this year in the center at 120 Vilano Road.

The grocery store has an art deco look, and the smaller buildings are Florida vernacular.
