Attack on LGBTQIA+ People by County Republican Chair

Why do the haters rage? Taking an unfair shot at our federally protected civil rights, St. Johns County Republican Chair WILLIAM KORACH was fired by the Republican Party of Florida for taking an unauthorized, ultra vires, anti-transgender position on the Drew Adams case (bathroom case) a position taken without legal authorization from the Republican Party.

Now, in today's St. Augustine Record, has the newest SJC REC Chair repeatd KORACH's mistake, in a letter co-signed by co-chair TAMARA RENUART?

ROY ALAIMO, JR. a/k/a "Shortcake," with 17th District Representative CYNTHIA WARD STEVENSON.  Full disclosure: I've filed to run as a Democrat against STEVENSON.

Check out today's St. Augustine Record for an example of fact-free prejudice directed against LGBTQIA+ friends and neighbors. In a letter, St. Johns County Republican Chair ROY ALAIMO, JR. and Vice Chair TAMARA RENUART spread misinformation and hatred. County Commission never voted on any proclamation -- one man blocked it -- the BoCC Chair, who refuses to allow discussion,. On March 8, 2021, Sara Bloomberg asked BoCC for a routine proclamation, like those in St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach.

Rude St. Johns County Commission Chair JEREMIAH RAY BLOCKER never responded in writing, but called April 28 to say it would not be issued, saying it was "controversial." It is not controversial that GLBTQIA+ people have rights -- it is the Law of the Land. How destructive of our efforts to make this a great place to live and work for County Commission Chairman JEREMIAH RAY BLOCKER to get our County sued. How ungracious of ALAIMO and RENUART to wage Kulturkampf (Culture War) on our citizens and their families. Not the first time that menu salesman ROY ALAIMO, JR. has written an offensive letter freighted with falsehoods. See fundraising letter, here

Ben Rich, Sr., former County Commission Chair, told Folio Weekly in 2008 that St. Johns County is "one of the last bastions of the Ku Klux Klan."

The late civil rights journalist and acitvist Wm. Stetson Kennedy said all KKK members in St. Johns County became registered Republicans. It shows. The ghost of Hoss Manucy haunts County Commission and its maladroit Chairman's Philistine veto, now supported with lies by pompous pachyderms. Looking forward to June 22, 2021 federal court hearing to clear the air and vindicate Sunshine, free speech and equal protection of the laws.

Here's prior coverage of ALAIMO's loathsome disinformation:

Dear Chairman Alaimo:

A. I am writing this morning concerning an April 26, 2021 fundraising letter (below) that you purportedly signed as St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee Chair.  Would you please be so kind as to call me this morning, to arrange a telephone interview for an article that I am writing?

B. Please help me understand the ideology and etiology of your angry April 26, 2021 SJC REC fundraising letter (below):
  1. Please provide specifics.
  2. What "liberal policies?"
  3. What "reckless spending?"
  4. Which special districts and boards?
  5. Which Democrats?
  6. Exactly where are they "marching?"
  7. Why did you choose the red-baiting word "infiltrated?"
  8. You refer to non-partisan boards, but seek to make them all-partisan by defeating a few Democrats?
  9. Where did you study political philosophy?
  10. What possessed SJC REC to advocate one-party rule?
  11. Cui bono?  Who benefits from one-party rule?
  12. Exactly what are SJC REC's "conservative values?"
  13. Would you please be so kind as to send me the document(s) defining SJC REC's "conservative values?"  If none exist, please so state.
  14. Do those "conservative values" include material false statements about the 2020 election?
  15. Do those "conservative values" include demagogy, and helping organize travel by January 6, 2021.S. Capitol insurrectionists?
  16. Do those "conservative values" include inaccuracy and insolence?
  17. Do those "conservative values" include dumbing down debate, disinformation, defamation and disloyalty to American democratic legal principles?
  18. Do those "values" endorse "fear and smear?"
  19. Who put the hate in your heart?
  20. As U.S. Army chief counsel Joseph Nye Welch asked Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, "Have you no sense of decency, sir?  At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"  See excerpt from June 9,1954 Army-McCarthy hearings, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svUyYzzv6VI
C. I look forward to discussing SJC REC's political philosophy.

Thank you?

With kindest regards, I am,
Sincerely yours,
Ed Slavin

Subject: Democrats are on the March in St Johns County

Friends,

Democrats are bringing their reckless spending and liberal policies to St Johns County. They have infiltrated our special district seats and have taken over non partisan boards.

We must stop them and stop them now!

The St Johns County Republican Party has made defeating all Democrats in local office a top priority in 2022.

We need your help! Rooting Democrats out of office will require a fully funded party operation. Your support will go a long way in assuring conservatives kick out all Democrats.

Your support will ensure our conservative values are protected here at home in St. Johns County.

Thank you!
