I posted on NextDoor about angry anti-LGBQAIA+ St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee ROY ALAIMO, JR. and whether Republicans would support him for gubernatorial appointment to St. Johns County Commission.
Intolerance ensued and the post was later deleted, without notice or explanation.
I have reported it to NextDoor corporate HQ in San Francisco.
San Francisco and California have strong human rights laws, Karens.
Are Republicans in St. Johns County asking Governor RON DeSANTIS to appoint ROY ALAIMO, JR., hateful homophobic, transphobic St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee Chair?
Are Republicans in St. Johns County asking Governor RON DeSANTIS to appoint ROY ALAIMO, JR., hateful homophobic, transphobic St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee Chair? ROY ALAIMO, JR a/k/a "Shortcake" is the nasty lugubrious goober who sent hate letters seeking financial contributions when St. Johns County Commission Chair JEREMIAY RAY BLOCKER blocked an LGBTQIA+ Pride Day Proclamation. ALAIMO was a reliable pro-developer vote on the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency. "He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." (James 1:8)*
*My late friend, mentor and former client, Senior Special Agent Robert E. Tyndall, shared this quote with me when he was explaining corruption. He was an EPA, HUD and FBI Special Agent who helped put corrupt public officials in jail. I was proud to help Bob win a landmark environmental whistleblower precedent against EPA and its Inspector General, John C. Martin, establishing the right of all environmental crimes investigators to speak truth to power, recuse themselves, and object to improper management directives (e.g., to use materially altered Forms 302 interview forms and to cover up for malfeasance, misfeasance and nonfeasance).https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2021/11/will-governor-ron-desantis-appoint.html

Any guess which way this person leans politically? Thought we were keeping politics off of here?

When a legislators appoints people that affect our laws, our lives, where we live, what we're surrounded by, the quality of our lives, then I really don't know how one avoids politics. That's how it works.

Breau Alexander I agree. There is not a "no politics" rule at NextDoor Any effort to create one favors the status quo. From 1998 to 2008, people were told we could not talk politics in County parks. My late friend, Ms. Robin Nadeau, and I were threatened with arrest by former Amp. Farmer's Market contractor's husband, simply for gathering petition signatures to place Faye Armitage on the ballot as our 2008 Democratic Congressional nominee. Then County Commission Chair Ben Rich, Sr. repeatedly told the County to stop violating our free speech rights. Yet some anti-politics public serpents persisted, like disgraced former St. Augustine Beach Mayor Andrea Samuels, who threatened County Commissioner Ken Bryan for campaigning at our St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier. . Our St. Johns County Commission voted unanimously to end her reign of error, finding that county parks, including pier park, would not limit "politics" with signs for designated free speech zones.

This is the very definition of hate. Decrying hate while being an avid practicioner of hate is a typical tactic. Anyone who disagrees politically is now "hateful." Sad.

Non sequiturs. St. Johns County Commission Chairman Jeremiah Ray Blocker disdains LGBTQIA+ Pride Proclamation, refusing to allow it to be voted on or discussed. A federal court lawsuit is pending, ROY ALAIMO, JR. added insult to injury with a hate letter, seeking funds. Our LGBGQIA+ neighbors' First, Ninth and Fourteenth Amendment rights are not "politics,' and talking down to me is unkind and unAmerican, St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency gave ALAIMO a plaque at the end of his "service," such as its was. When I called it a "hate letter," I was stigmatized by the PZA Chair. Try tolerance, people. http://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2021/06/attack-on-lgbtqia-people-by-county.html

The twin itty bitty cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach have both shown that they have a welcoming spirit, that our hearts are open, and that we're open to diversity, and we're open for business. Both cities passed LGBTQIA+ Pride proclamations, reflecting our values.(edited)

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said St. Johns County was "the most lawless" place in America. Naming ALAIMO would grant the Governor's stamp of approval on lawlessness and bigotry,

Marilyn Marginian Use of word "rant" is pejorative. Use of "personal political" is condescending. I can just feel the love. If you don't like my post, write your own.(edited)

Stop. Politics do not belong on this site. Write a letter to the editor of the St. Augustine Record if you want to preach your political view.

If Governor RON DeSANTIS were to name ROY ALAIMO, JR. to County Commission, it would be a disaster -- he is pro-developer and an extremist.

Sir, I have repeated this again and again. As an 8 year member of Nextdoor, this site was never meant or designed to be a political forum. Its intent is a neighborhood informational local community event site, where neighbors could share local achievements, yard sales, community gatherings, services needed, etc... Not politics. Whatever anyone's view is on politics can be shared on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to your hearts content. These political posts, yours included, quickly change and within a few posts the battles, rants and mud slinging always emerge.

This is about local government. Our local government. Our democracy. Our rights. Your condescending contempt for "politics" is a standardless self-delegation to oppress free speech about our town and its future. You are wrong.

I have lived in St. Johns County since November 5, 1999 -- 22 years. I have watched deforestation, wetland killing and wildlife destruction. You call it "politics," and sneer. If you don't like my post, don't read it. Don't presume that you have a right to a Philistine's veto.

There is not a "no politics" rule on NextDoor. And this is about our local government and human rights for LGBTQIA+ people in bigoted St. Johns County. Any deletion by NextDoor may violate California and San Francisco human rights laws, e.g, where NextDoor is headquartered. Have you heard of the Unruh Act? You and Oz could be found liable for any lawbreaking,

You don’t know this person personally or where his heart is but because he took a position you disagree with you drop a dump truck full of hate on him and share it publicly on social media. This is what is wrong with this country right now. No longer is a dissenting opinion allowed from the left. If you disagree with them they will turn a flamethrower of hate at you. It is what our media does and now our neighbors too. It was clear in the 2020 election and in the election last night. So sad. I fear for the future of this country. I truly do.

Wrong. As SJC REC Chair, ROY ALAIMO, JR. was guilty of sending a fundraising letter that supported discriminatory actions by County Commission Chair, who blocked routine LGBTQIA+ Pride Proclamation. ALAIMO. doubled down on bigotry. The :flamethrower of hate" is from the REC, and a few NextDoor posters who disdain "politics" when it suits them, insulting me. "Father, forgive them. for they know not what they do."(edited)

BLOCKER never responded to the ladies who asked for a proclamation. That's rude and disrespectful. Then a County employee called and said Commission would not do proclamations that are "too left or too right." Nothing in writing. This is Jim Crow Law, St. Johns County style. Both cities did LGBTQIA+ Pride Proclamations and were proud to do so.
