A former judge in Lauderdale County, Alabama, was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison, according to a report by WAFF.

Alabama Judge Gilbert P. Self Sr. had been convicted in November on 17 of 18 charges, according to WHNT, including using his office for personal gain; making false statements and perjury; and for using county funds to buy a couch, prescription glasses and vacations disguised as judicial conferences, the report said.

An audit found that Self also spent county money employing his son and purchasing alcoholic beverages, golf clubs, guns, ammunition, kitty litter and more, according to another report by WAFF.

Self is out on bond while he appeals, according to WAFF.
