State of Florida v. NATHAN JAMES KEYES: REMARKS OF ED SLAVIN, December 2, 2025 St Johns County Commission meeting

Dogged St. Johns County Sheriff's detectives investigated, and the 7th Circuit State's Attorney brought two criminal charges in October 2025 against a convicted felon, Mr. NATHAN JAMES KEYES, over alleged criminal  internet threats were made with graphic violent deadly, bloody images directed against our County Commission Chair and our new Vice Chair, making reference to criticism of County Attorney Richard Christian Komando.  Counsel for Defendant NATHAN JAMES KEYES filed no motion to dismiss. No depositions were taken.  No discovery was exchanged.  LARIZZA  won't explain ANY legal reason for his dropping one of two charges in State v.  KEYES.  Why?

After a 2008 road rage event, NATHAN JAMES KEYES was convicted of shooting a gun into an occupied vehicle risking the life of a seven year old girl and her father in the car.  Was KEYES given lenient treatment after KEYES met with then-Sheriff David Shoar, with two County Commissioners and with one future Commissioner, now deceased?  You tell me.

Despite my repeated requests over years, LARIZZA's office has refused to share or support the National District Attorneys' Association (NDAA) National Prosecution Standards.  LARIZZA has 82 prosecutors in four counties.  We, the People, need to empower them.

Please ask FBI to investigate the defendant's alleged intimidation and threats directed against Commissioners Krista Joseph and Ann Taylor and several other citizens, in retaliation for First Amendment protected activity in response to deforestation, clearcutting and overdevelopment. Will Commission kindly hold a hearing and vote to invite the FBI to do its job? Will Mr. LARIZZA kindly discuss it publicly and answer questions in a Town Hall meeting?  Will County Commissioners speak to preserve, protect and defend our constitutional Right to Know under Article I, Section 24 of our Florida Constitution?  Some 3.8 million Florida voters (83%) adopted it in 1992.

Commissioners as a group never provided public performance evaluations for the County Attorney or County Administrator.  Why? There are no written annual or monthly reports to County Commission and citizens by either one of them,   Why?

There are no tapes or transcripts of Commissioners' frequent secret meetings with developers and lobbyists.  Why?  Commissioners rushing through required disclosures of ex parte contacts without adequate information. Why?

We, the People, expect and deserve better.

With kindest regards, I am,
Sincerely yours,
Ed Slavin
