PBSJ Press Release on Vice President Charles Padera's Re-Election As Chair of Florida Inland Navigation District Board

For Release: August 1, 2007

Padera Re-elected Chair of
the Florida Inland Navigation District

Jacksonville, FL – PBS&J vice president Charles “Chuck” Padera was recently re-elected by his peers to serve a second term as chairman of the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND). Padera was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush in 2001 and is completing the second year of his 4-year term as St. Johns County’s appointed representative of the District.

The mission of the Florida Inland Navigation District is to serve as a state sponsor of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway project in Florida, a state/federal navigation project that is governed by 12 appointed commissioners representing the coastal counties of east Florida from Nassau to Dade counties. The District provides all lands required for the navigation project, including right-of-way and lands for the management of dredged materials removed from the waterway channel during dredging activities. Further, the District performs dredging duties within and along the Intracoastal Waterway. In addition, the District provides funding assistance to other governments within the District through the Waterways and Cooperative Assistance Programs.

“Serving the people of St. Johns County and residents in the 11 other east coast counties that comprise the Florida Inland Navigation District has been a pleasure,” stated Chuck Padera. “As a young boy, the waters of the Intracoastal Waterway and the surrounding lands were my favorite places for recreation; therefore, I view my contribution of time on the FIND board as a way of giving back to this state so future generations can continue to enjoy our precious waterways.”

Padera serves as director of the Everglades Partners Joint Venture (EPJV), where he leads a joint venture team in support of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in restoring the South Florida ecosystem. He has 29 years of professional experience in water resource planning and management, including 11 years as director of the Department of Water Resources for the St. Johns River Water Management District and 5 years as director of the Natural Resource Management Division for the SFWMD.

Padera is based in PBS&J’s EPJV office and can be reached by telephone at 904.232.3506 or by e-mail at CAPadera@epjv.net.
