TALLAHASSEE (AP) — State regulators are looking into whether Florida's two largest power companies should be able to keep passing on future nuclear power plant costs to customers.
The Public Service Commission begins a hearing today. It is expected to continue through next week and possibly longer.
Consumer advocates have raised several questions about the charges.
One is when, if ever, Florida Power & Light Co. and Progress Energy Florida will build the plants?
They're also asking how much the plants will cost and if there may be less expensive ways to meet Florida's future power needs.
FLP (sic) wants to charge customers $196 million next year for upgrading two reactors and two new ones.
Progress is looking for $135 million for a new plant in Levy County.
In secret, behind locked gates, the former City Manager of our Nation's Oldest City dumped solid waste in our Old City Reservoir. He emitted raw sewage in our San Sebastian River. Citizens exposed environmental racism and pollution. Our new leaders now listen. We're transforming our City. This is advanced citizenship. Please continue to ask questions and make disclosures. Demand answers. Expect democracy. Help us achieve a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore.
