Dear Mr. Slavin,

As of this date the Just value for the property located at 35 Mulberry St is $384,392. Following Constitutional Amendments, Florida Statutes, and Property Tax Exemptions the taxable value for the City and County portion is lowered to $17,762. The property in question has had the Save Our Homes cap since 1994. In suggestion of political influence I do not personally appraise property. I have a field staff that is over seen by the Director of Real Property who is a certified Fee Appraiser.
I will have the Director of Real Property review the subject parcel. Thank you for your inquiry, and I hope you have a nice holiday weekend.

Sincerely,
Sharon Outland

Dear Sharon:
Is that a typographical error? Waterfront property, co-owned by Mayor JOSEPH LESTER BOLES, JR. and his Mother. $17,762 taxable value? Please initiate and have a peer review by another property appraiser to assure independence of thought and prevent the hint of favoritism. Please do so for other properties owned by public officials or powerful families in St. Augustine and St. Johns County.
