In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!

Calling Neil Armstrong .....
Several local historic preservationists and politicians now support "national heritage areas" under National Park Service jurisdiction. That's "one small step" but no "giant leap for mankind."
Yes, it will be seen by history as merely a "baby step" taken by the City of St. Augustine on the Gullah-Geeche Corridor and other "heritage areas." We need a "giant leap" for humankind. That will be the St. Augustine National Historical Park, National Seashore and National Scenic Coastal Parkway. See www.staugustgreen.com!
Watch Ken Burns' new documentary on the national parks on September 27th on PBS.
Don't be fooled by Bush Lite idea (heritage areas) which Bushites would like to be a substitute for national parks, with no land acquisition and no regulation -- the two main "benefits" (sic) cited by the misguided or misled supporters of the dumb 'ole heritage areas.
Heritage areas (compared to a national park, seashore and coastal parkway) are not unlike the park equivalent of "kissing one's sister through a screen door" -- or as Gertrude Stein said of Oakland, "there's no there there" -- not one centimeter of land may be acquired for a heritage area.
Heritage areas are a snare and a delusion -- smoke and mirrors. Only a national park, seashore and coastal parkway will preserve St. Augustine and environs forever. See Faye Armitage's Folio Weekly column and more, down below.
