POLITICS GURU CHRIS CILLIZZA CALLS CHARLIE CRIST SPOILER FOR MEEK ON MSNBC

Says Crist's Campaign Fading, Meek Winning Over Democrats

Meek campaign: "Kendrick's in a one-on-one race against the clock with Rubio and Kendrick has to drag Crist's weight behind him."

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. -- On MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Reports, the Washington Post's Chris Cillizza today said Crist's campaign is fading and that Crist is serving as a "spoiler" in the race.

"Since Kendrick Meek became the Democratic nominee on August 24, Charlie Crist has receded into the background. Marco Rubio, the former state house speaker -- the Republican, is ahead in this race. Crist is fading as Kendrick Meek wins over Democrats who were with Crist but are moving to Meek...Charlie Crist doesn't seem to have made that calculation and that's why we see him dropping in the polls. He's sort of looking more like a spoiler in the race more than a potential winner," Cillizza told Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC today.

In response, the Kendrick Meek campaign released the following statement:

"The experts have spoken. Only Kendrick Meek can stand up to Marco Rubio, the Tea Party and the corporate special interests who want to take Florida back to the brink. The only thing that's standing in the way is Charlie Crist and his desperate campaign. From throwing wild pitches to spreading lies about Kendrick's campaign, Crist and his campaign are trying to fool Floridians into thinking he will stand up to Marco Rubio and his Tea Party friends. That never was and never will be the case. Kendrick's in a one-on-one race against the clock with Rubio and Kendrick has to drag Crist's weight behind him."
