Florida County Commissioners have no jurisdiction over Florida Schools -- that's the School Board's job. Nevertheless, are a couple bumptious book-banners, book-banners, Gay-bashers and opponents of telling the truth about civil rights and Afircan-American history running for County Commissions in Florida? You tell me. Some current and would-be elected officials in St. Johns County have spoken to our County Commission, prattling on about the "liberal" American Library Association, with support from several County Commissioners (ROY ALYRE ALAIMO, JR. and KRISTA KEATING JOSEPH. Pray for them. Misguided Commissioner JOSEPH once asked the political affiliation of Library Board candidates -- I called her out for First Amendment violations and violating Supreme Court precedents on nondiscrimination on the basis of political affiliations. I think she was ill-advised, a bit naive and hopefully she won't do it again.
But such is not the case with inanity and insanity and infamy emitted by fulminating low-class former DeSANTIS Congressional staffer ROY ALAIMO, a developer puppet for developer-Senator TRAVIS JAMES HUTSON. Like his GQP associates, lightweight ROY ALAIMO is seemingly obsessed with hating on LGBTQ+ people. Angry ALAIMO once signed a homophobic fund raising letter when he was St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee Chair, asking for support for then-Commissioner JEREMIAH RAY BLOCKER's sua sponte unilaterally blocking a routine LGBTQ+ Pride proclamation for St. Johns County Commission, similar to proclamations routinely approved by the cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach. God forgive them. BLOCKER never addressed his motives, but ALAIMO confessed to their scheme. He hates "liberals" and LGBTQ+ people. As Mr. T. would say, "we pity the fool."
Anyone using the words "Lesbian Marxist" as a pejorative is engaged in hate speech, pure and simple. It is an ad hominem argument,
ALAIMO's unkind, uncouth ilk reminds me of the alleged "redneck speech" given by George Smathers in the 1950 U.S. Senate election, described in Wikipedia: Part of American political lore is the Smathers "redneck speech," which Smathers reportedly delivered to a poorly educated audience. The alleged comments were recorded in a small magazine, picked up in Time and elsewhere and etched into the public's memories.[9] Time, during the campaign, claimed that Smathers said this:
- Are you aware that Claude Pepper is known all over Washington as a shameless extrovert? Not only that, but this man is reliably reported to practice nepotism with his sister-in-law, he has a brother who is a known homo sapiens,[10] and he has a sister who was once a thespian in wicked New York. Worst of all, it is an established fact that Mr. Pepper, before his marriage, habitually practiced celibacy.[11]
The leading reporter who actually covered Smathers said he always gave the same speech. No Florida newspapers covering the campaign ever reported such remarks contemporaneously. Smathers offered $10,000 to anyone who could prove he said it, and there were no takers before his death on January 20, 2007.[9][12]
JFK said at American University in 1963, "we must make the world safe for diversity." In 2020, the United States Supreme Court held in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects LGBTQ+ people from employment discrimination. That is the law of the land, a 6-3 decision written by Justice Gorsuch. But as JFK said during the Cuban Missile Crisis, "there's always some poor S.O.B. who doesn't get the word!" The next time some Moms for Liberty harridan talks about Lesbians, will one of our St. Johns County Commissioners say something supportive of civil and constitutional rights?
We will not cower to power. We will not indulge appeals to ignorance. We reject decision making based on fear or ignorance, or fear of ignorance.
We don't need to elect or re-elect any more errant ignorant County Commissioners who act like Joe McCarthy in drag, hateful hick hack hypocrites using LGBTQ+ people for target practice, do we? Take your culture wars elsewhere, thou Philistines and Pharisees. We don't need your emetic emotional ranting and invasions of privacy in public office.
To bigots, as RFK wrote to James O. Eastland (D-Miss.), the late segregationist Senator in a book inscription, "Repent now, there's still time."
Here's an article from Huffington Post about a Lesbian librarian singled out for abuse by harassing busybodies -- the GQP forces of fear and smear in St. Johns County. Your 15 minutes are up.

The nazis also burned books and made exaggerated claims of communism to stoke fear and anger, and justify violence and takeover. January the 6th was worse than the Munich Beer Hall Putsch. Do you people realize that? Now a big problem is the christofascists and their agents in the GOP who know not that they know not that they know not. They need to get serious about fascism.
