City of St. Augustine Press Release: February 28, 2009 Noche de Gala to Mark Birthday of City's Founder, Author of America's Anti-Gay Hate Crime

How revolting. Pedro Menendez de Aviles is treated like a cult figure here.

His sins have found him out.

In 2005, United States District Judge Henry Lee Adams, Jr. ordered the City of St. Augustine to fly Rainbow Flags on our Bridge of Lions in honor of St. Augustine's GLBT history, including the 1566 murder of a French Lutheran Gay translator, whom Menendez ordered garroted to death as a "Sodomite and a Lutheran."

Menendez' worshippers include government employees who receive free $150 tickets.

Yet City Manager WILLIAM B. HARRISS' heyboy, Chief Operating Officer JOHN REGAN, says expenses are "cut to the bone."
