As I look across Matanzas River and read the words below (high levels of PCB-like substances in our river), I am reminded of the nattering nabobs of negativism on the City Commission and City Manager WILLIAM B. HARRISS, who don't give a fig about environmental pollution here in Lincolnville.
Since the city doesn't care about violating pollution laws, we must look to the City and certain industrialists as the likely varmints polluting our water. May the guys with the guns and badges come more swiftly this time, instead of slapping the City on the wrist.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
