On July 4, 1981, Appalachian Observer publisher Ernest F. Phillips and Editor Ed Slavin (that would be me) distributed copies of the Prospectus for the AO in Lake City (formerly Coal Creek, now Rocky Top), informing our readers what we were going to do. And we did it.
The headline on the four page tabloid Prospectus was "Celebrate Independence!"
