Dear Commissioners:
Thank you for moving public comment to the beginning of our meetings.
We, the People have rejected the mean-spirited attitude that the late Arkansas U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright called, "The arrogance of power."
I've lived in St. Johns County for 25 years. We've seen a lot of the arrogance of power here in what we call "God's country"
We don't even have a lobbying disclosure ordinances because lobbyists opposed it, and prior Commissioners clicked their heels. One former Commissoine, Jay Morris, said lobbyist disclosure would be "burdensome." That dog won't hunt. A $25 annual registration fee is not "burdensome." But governments run by corporate oligarchs are "burdensome," and we're seeing it today, everywhere, all at once.
Our County government oligarchs canned Trey Alexander Asner for seeking to enforce the law and protect our precious cultural heritage, including African-American history. Was that a sin, a crime or a tort against democracy? You tell me. The unjust stewards who did that to Mr. Asner are still here, and the County Administrator, Ms. Andrews and Commissioner Arnold would not even meet wth Mr. Asner. Every other Commissioner has met with him. But some officials practice willful blindness.
Always remember "hypocrisy is the tribute that vice pays to virtue."
During Black History Month, we learned that Administration applied for a demolition permit to tear down the old county jail where Dr. King and other civil rights leaders were illegally incarcerated for demonstrating in support of civil rights laws. Shame on them. Last year, I advised the Sheriff to take the matter to our SJC Cultural Resources Review Board. But the current County Administrator in her unmitigated arrogance did not do so; Administration sought a demolition permit. Too many County managers do not give a fig about civil rights.
It's time for them to go,
Our County hired a Interim County Attorney who is County Attorney for three counties. No other candidates were considered. Why?
It's time for him to go.
Thank you.
With kindest regards, I am,
Sincerely yours,

You harp on government a lot, but I assure you many so called companies down here are way worse with the incompetence and non-empathy. They cheerlead when people "immigrate" to "the free state of Florida." They have both nothing to say when people leave because they've been grifted to a husk and just tired of dealing with crooks and bad politics.
