Clean Up City of St. Augustine, Florida

In secret, behind locked gates, the managers of the Nation's oldest (European-founded) City illegally dumped 40,000 cubic yards of contaminants in the Old City Reservoir, where people fished and swam for generations. St. Augustine's pollution symbolizes our City's putative leaders' lack of trust in the public's right to know. This is advanced citizenship. Please share your questions and whistleblower disclosures about City government. Then let's demand answers. Expect democracy.

Boil-water alert lifted

The precautionary boil-water notice given to city water customers on Wednesday following a water main break was lifted Saturday afternoon.

After a pipe being replaced on King Street east of the San Sebastian River broke Wednesday, the city lost water pressure and was required to caution residents to boil water for consumption, said John Regan, the city's chief operations officer.

It also had to test two water samples, and both were free of bacteria, Regan said.

"The break itself was isolated quickly, and at no time did we really have a situation where public health was an issue," he said. "But we have to follow the regulatory protocol."

Residents with questions can call the city's Public Works Department at 825-1040.
