Commissioner and former St. Augustine Beach Mayor RICHARD BURTT O'BRIEN still faces a probable cause hearing on ethics charges over unreported income. But at the October 19, 2018 meeting of the Florida Ethics Commission, O'BRIEN got a pass on his using City letterhead, unauthorized, for a letter supporting the St. Augustine Beach Civic Association for a no-bid contract to run the Wednesday Farmer's Market. His letter was unavailing. The complaint by watchdog Thomas F. Reynolds stated that O'BRIEN stood to benefit because he advertises with the Civic Association.
Based on today's press release of the Florida Ethics Commission on its October 19, 2018 decision finding probable cause on eight (8) ethics violations in the case of SUSAN HAYNIE, the disgraced former Boca Raton Mayor, imperious St. Augustine Beach Commission RICHARD BURTT O'BRIEN must be sweating bullets today. Next Ethics Commission meeting is December 7, 2018.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
