7 things to know about recently arrested Sheriff Marcos Lopez. (Scott Maxwell column, Orlando Sentinel, June 13, 2025)

Until he was removed by the Florida Governor in 1970, corrupt St. Johns County Sheriff LAWRENCE O. DAVIS ran the races here, including gambling and prostitution.  Ousted Orange County Sheriff MARCOS LOPEZ, in the spirit of ousted Sheriff LAWRENCE O. DAVIS, talked about law and order, but he was the biggest racketeer in Osceola County, allying himself with Boy Governor RONALD DION DeSANTIS and his hobbledehoy, now his puppet Attorney General JAMES UTHMEIER, the failed  Campaign Manager for DeSANTIS for the failed President Campaign Manager whom DeSANTIS appointed to be Florida Attorney General as a sort of Mini-Me.

History lesson: LAWENCE O. DAVIS, evil racist St. Johns County Sheriff (1949-1970), was removed from office, first by Governor Claude Kirk, and then by vote of the Florida Senate by vote of 44-2.  That Sheriff was sinister segregationist LAWRENCE O. DAVIS, whose gambling and whorehouse businesses drew scrutiny, even as he had 1000+ civil rights protesters illegally arrested -- every single one of those cases was removed to federal court and dismissed by the Honorable Bryan J. Simpson, for whom the United States Courthouse in Jacksonville is now named.  A paen to Sheriff LAWRENCE O. DAVIS long appeared on SJC Sheriff propaganda, including 1995 yearbook and SJCSO website, falsely claiming that DAVIS was "exonerated" by the Florida Senate, falsely claiming that Dr. King was arrested by "federal agents" -- the erroneous information was not removed by controversial Sheriff DAVID SHOAR, who legally changed his name from "HOAR" in 1994.  Current Sheriff Robert Hardwick removed the insolent disinformation about DAVIS at my request.

Makes you greatful that we had Sheriff David Shoar here for so long. No shady side hustles, no scandals, no monkey business, no drama, helped everyone he possibly could.

I dissent. Michelle O'Connell homicide coverup disproves your statement.
