Expressing the view that there's way too much transparency in the City of St. Augustine, some Commissioners want to our-source the 450th celebration to a private foundation. Nothing good can come from that.
It violates the Delegation Doctrine, which ways that core government functions can't be delegated to private businesses.
It promises to usurp government functions, the same as took place here when the state historic preservation board's properties were scarfed up by WILLIAM PROCTOR's foundation (only to be reversed as a result of litigation by John Sundeman and the State Attorney General).
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
