Our "Compassionate City" friends got City Commission to declare "forgiveness month."
Who and what are we forgiving and why?
Dumping a landfill in a lake, being what MLK called "the most lawless city in America," discriminating against African-Americans, women, Gays and Lesbians, violating First Amendment rights, engaging in illegal surveillance, issuing no-bid contracts to a favored few, showing promiscuous favoritism toward wetland-killing, tree-killing "developers," destroying a 210-year old building without permits and fining the destroyer, who was not cross-examined and fined only $3600, with our City Attorney hugging him after the farce was over? What's next?
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
