After the St. Augustine City Commission passed the motion to bring contaminated solid waste back to Lincolnville on the morning of November 13, 2007, I leaned over and said to Republican Commissioner ERROL JONES, "does your conscience bother you?"
JONES replied, "I'm not taking any bribes!"
I was referring to JONES having made the motion to bring contaminated solid waste back to Lincolnville. I never mentioned anything about any bribes.
With the indictment of Republican County Commission Chairman THOMAS G. MANUEL, JONES denial of a question that wasn't asked is leaving observers wondering......
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
