In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!

HARRISS makes a joke of reducing St. Augustine's carbon footprint, with bicycle bearing fire extinguisher --

It finally happened last night -- City Manager WILLIAM B. HARRISS went on-camera.
It was the first time HARRISS did so since City Commisisoners presented him with an attaboy plaque in the midst of a pending criminal investigation in March 2006.
HARRISS received a supposed environmentally-friendly fire vehicle -- a fire extinguisher on a bicycle.
People laughed.
They weren't laughing with HARRISS, they were laughing at him. Our Nation's Oldest City refused to do anything in response ot the Sierra Club's Cool Cities program, or join with 750 other mayors in vowing to battle global warming greenhouse gases.
Our City refuses to adopt life cycle costing principles by ordinance -- refusing to consider the lifetime costs of half million dollar pieces of capital equipment like garbage trucks. Our City still wastes money on too many vehicles for pashas like HARRISS, who receives a $275/month vehicle allowance to cart his considerably corpulent self around our small city.
Our City needs a new City Manager, maybe even one who would walk or ride a bicycle to work.
