Commissioner JAMES JOHNS SEEKS ELECTION: He's a good man

I like Commissioner James Johns. He was appointed by Governor RICHARD LYNN SCOTT (You know, I'm not our Governor's biggest fan).

But Commissioner James Johns is authentic: pro-democracy, 100% Cherokee, supporting citizen rights. Asks questions, demands answers. Unless our sere putative "Democratic" Party (registration south of 24%) or our candidates suggest someone, Commissioner JAMES JOHNS has earned my vote in his June 16, 2015 remarks on proposed 16.666 sales tax increase.

By THE RECORD
St. Johns County Commissioner Jimmy Johns has filed paperwork to run for election in 2016, according to a press release.

Gov. Rick Scott appointed Johns in April to serve the commission’s District 1 seat, filling a void left by State Rep. Cyndi Stevenson.

Johns, 47, who lives in Julington Creek Plantation, is president of Solid Rock Engineering Consultants of Jacksonville.

Another person has filed to run for a separate commission seat.

Dottie Acosta has filed to run for the District 5 seat, according to documents on the Supervisor of Elections website. The seat is currently held by Commission Chair Rachael Bennett.

Both seats are up for election in 2016.
