We've got a lot to celebrate, and a lot to regret. America's first European-founded City. Oldest permanent settlement. Overcame European religions wars on our shores genocide, slavery, segregation, racism, pollution, hurricanes, developers, corruption, good-ole-boys, oppression?
Or not?
One of the most liberal places in North Florida, but still contending with corruption, still smeared, teared and bleared with developer-driven antics, like the proposed conversion of the DOW MUSEUM OF HISTORIC HOMES into a $500/night hotel, keeping average Americans out of the property our State of Florida spent $2.1 million rehabilitating.
"Celebrate 450!"?
You tell me.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
