Just reported to the National Response Center (U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Ennis) last night's sewage spill at the corner of St. Francis Street and Cordova, where sewage overflowed from a manhole.
There was no response from my text last night to City Manager JOHN PATRICK REGAN, P.E., an environmental engineer. Not even an acknowledgement from our estimable City Manager. Wonder why?
I then called the police. Lime has been applied and signs were placed around Maria Sanchez Lake.
And the band played on….
St. Augustine will continue to experience flooding and sewage spills until we spend as much as $100 million on a pumping system to remedy flooding, the inevitable sequelae of Flagler East Coast Railway founder Henry Morrison Flagler's feckless filling in of Maria Sanchez Creek (today's Cordova Street, locus of yet another sewage spill last night).
BTW: How would the guests of the proposed Cordova Inn (DOW PUD) feel about getting poop on their Ferraris, Mazzaratis, Lamborghinis, BMWs, Mercedes, Porsches and $1000 shoes?
Actual photos of sewage spill in progress.
The next time I text the City Manager to report one, I expect to have a prompt response, if not an actual "Thank you!" Sewage spills and illegal solid waste dumping have cost our City fines and prestige.
