Beggar-thy-neighbor Builders' Council demands to cut impact fees

"Mulls" is one of those five letter words headline writers love, but readers wince. (See below). It's especially disconcerting that our County Commissioners would "mull" anything related to ending impact fees.

Developers have overbuilt in St. Johns County. Corruption made it possible. Our St. Johns County Commission Chair stands indicted for two federal felony counts of bribery. Was he the first Republican in St. Johns County to take a bribe, or just the first one to be videotaped doing it?

Now the corrupters, led by allegedly negligent builder ED PAUCEK, want a "free ride" to be paid by the rest of us. That's arrogance and hubris.

Former U.S. Senator Gary W. Hart (D-Colo) issued instructions to his staff in 1975 to analyze every legislative proposal with good judgment. In particular, he wrote, government officials need to ask of every proposal, "is it based on need, or greed?"

By that standard, the Builders Council should be told "NO."

What do you reckon?
