St. Augustine – Organizers say encouraging holiday shopping at local businesses and craft markets is the goal of a Black Friday protest to be held November 25 in the oldest city’s Plaza de la Constitucion – which also the oldest Market in America.

The protest will begin at 6 a.m. and go until 6 p.m., with people encouraged to bring signs encouraging local shopping rather holidays than at the big chains and box stores.

“We realize some people can’t stay for the entire day, but even if they came for a little while, the message will be worth it. It’s a chance to do something good for the local economy,” said an organizer who asked not to be named.

The group continues to hold meetings in the plaza on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m.
