CITY ADOPTS FIRE TAX METHODOLOGY

Once again, City Commissioner TODD DAVID NEVILLE (R-Proctorville) was alone in opposing progress, as the City adopted a new methodology for funding fire services, based on historical experience, which makes commercial properties and non-profit organizations pay their fair share.

Captain Lee Geanuleas, U.S.N. (Ret.), Dr. Leonard Pellicer, Ed.D. and I supported the change, following a procedure used by 97% of the local governments in Florida.

Opposing it were a Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Manager, Robert Porter, who presented no data, only emotional arguments.

I pointed out the history of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States and its local affiliates, which have opposed every progressive law ever adopted in America. Commissioners knocked the Chamber of Commerce and its rhetoric into a cocked hat, voting for equity 4-1, Commissioner ODD TODD NEVILLE dissenting.
