LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Bailey best for the Beach

Editor: I live at the Beach and have seen the damage done by Mayor Rich O’Brien. He has been in office 10 years and we’ve had millions of dollars wasted on Ocean Hammock Park as a buffer zone for the rich neighborhood to the south. The monstrosity being built north of the pier is a travesty. The property should’ve been purchased to expand parking and commercial space at the pier. There’s no parking now. And, what, 15 or 20 spaces at Ocean Hammock? I don’t know who you talked to, but everyone I know is tired of his “holier than thou” attitude. Ask his underpaid and overworked staff.

He also has a financial interest being in real estate, with all the McMansions being built. Rose Bailey would be a needed change.

Amendment 1: Don’t be fooled by twisted text

Editor: If you are at all confused about the goals for Amendment 1, Consumers For Smart Solar, recent articles in The Record should clear up any questions you have about their goals.

This group has received $25 million from the following energy companies: Florida Power and Light, $8 million; Duke Energy, $7 million; Tampa Electric Company, $3 million; and Gulf Power, $2 million. These companies do not give away millions of dollars to improve the environment. You might remember it was Duke Energy that spilled millions of gallons of poisonous waste water in to rivers in the Carolinas. These are the same people who are behind the Cross Florida pipeline

Don’t be fooled by fancy ballot language. The $25 million is to ensure the these companies and others like them can continue to pollute our atmosphere and waterways while making Mo’ money, Mo’ money, Mo’ money.
