Happy 159th birthday, President Theodore Roosevelt (U.S. Department of the Interior press release)

It's Theodore Roosevelt's 159th birthday.  Happy birthday, Teddy!  In TR's spirit, we're working for a St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore here in St. Johns County and Flagler County.  Like any good diplomat, we're not taking "no" for an answer.

Work zealously to protect the 130,000 acres of government land in St. Johns and Flagler Counties that are currently state parks, state forests and St. Johns River Water Management District lands.

As Woodie Guthrie sang, "This land is your land!"

Read our draft St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore Act bill here, inspired by the first proposal for the park, in 1939, by St. Augustine Mayor Walter Fraser, introduced by Senator Claude Pepper, et al.

Mail from the U.S. Department of the Interior

Happy birthday, President Theodore Roosevelt! In the 159 years since Roosevelt was born, his name has become symbolic of our deep commitment to our public lands and a belief in the American conservation ethic.

Often called a "force of nature," his legendary courage and powerful conservation legacy continue to influence lawmakers and provide an example for all nations. His felt passionately about the outdoors and advocated for our national treasures to be managed "for the benefit and enjoyment of the people." As Roosevelt once said, “It is not what we have that will make us a great nation; it is the way in which we use it.”
