Editor: Running for Florida's 7th Congressional District, Faye Armitage is facing daunting odds: winning against Winter Park's career politician, U.S. Rep. John Mica. He's seeking his ninth term.
A classic David vs. Goliath contest, Armitage's contributions $25,000. vs an ominous war chest of nearly $1 million, begs the question: Why does a sitting congressman spend $1 million to win? Mica's lock step voting record 93.7 percent with President Bush could be a predictor of same old, same old. Perhaps it's just not real money, to Mica? Way to go.
As a single mother with five children, Armitage knows first hand the meaning of hard work and will work to find solutions that give relief to families suffering under the economic meltdown. Her international experience, a master's degree in economics, and knowing where to look for answers will help bridge the gap between Wall Street and Main Street USA.
In its November edition, Esquire reviewed candidates.
Here is what it said about the Florida District 7 race between Armitage and Mica:
"Mica demands budgetary transparency from the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) that's good. But over the past two years he's given a rubber stamp to every invasion of privacy the agency proposes while seeking to trim costs by keeping TSA workers' wages and job security at a minimum. That's dangerous.
Esquire endorses: Faye Armitage (D)"
