County, State and Federal Emergency Management officials must be heard from before there is any further discussion of a permit -- County Director Linda Stoughton examining the issue this morning. Nancy Shaver's suggestion was to ask our emergency management officials to advise us. No permit should be issued -- I have contacted the City Manager and City Attorney and requested that no permit be issued. There must be intergovernmental meetings between our city officials and our county, state and federal emergency management agencies to preserve and protect the integrity of this intersection. It stands astride a critical evacuation route from South Ponte Vedra Beach and Vilano Beach. Due to development, a 7-Eleven at the May and San Marco intersection would clog the already failing intersection, preventing the real possibility of loss of life in a hurricane.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
