St. Johns County Must Respect Whistleblower Rights, Hire Inspector General, Ombudsman

St. Johns County needs its consciousness raised and its butt kicked on respecting employee rights.

St. Johns County government goobers have made a spectacle of themselves by sidelining, with pay, the manager of our Amphitheatre. This public derision and obloquy by innuendo is indefensible, and must be ended at once.

St. Johns County needs to adopt a whistleblower policy worthy of the name -- like the one unanimously adopted by the Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County.

St. Johns County needs to adopt a nondiscrimination provision that embraces and protects GLBT employees, like the one unanimously adopted by the Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County.

St. Johns County needs an Inspector General, just as federal and state agencies, and Miami-Dade County, Wayne County (Detroit) Michigan and New Orleans have, to root out waste, fraud, abuse, misfeasance, malfeasance and nonfeasance. All we have now is one accountant (married to another county employee) who passes for a fraud investigator in the Clerk of Courts office. That's less than lame.

St. Johns COunty needs an Ombudsperson, as many governments have, to be an advocate for citizens, helping them get justice.

St. Johns County needs an elected County Attorney, who will be empowered to represent the people, not the powerful.

St. Johns County needs to stop wasting money on Taj Mahal projects and questionable contracts, such as paying $30,000 for unused documents in the contract Ryan Dettra has questioned.

St. Johns County needs to stop wasting money on energy. County buildings don't need to be lit up like ferry boats going out to sea when no one is in them. County recreational facilities don't need to be lit up like Superbowl stadiums when no one is using them. Technical fixes (like motion detectors should be considered xxx

Strides have been made since the days of developer-driven BCCs where the likes of JAME$ BRYANT, KAREN $TERN, MARC JACALONE, BRUCE MAGUIRE, et al.
