Lee Geanuleas and Warren Celli on Lawbreaking in St. Augustine

Neighbors,

In a bit of a surprise this afternoon, the HARB voted 3-2 to "continue" the request from hotel developer Kanti Patel for an "opinion of appropriateness" for his conceptual San Marco Hotel valet parking tunnel design.

In what was expected to be a fairly pro forma exercise, three HARB members were anything but happy with the vagueness of what was briefed to them in terms of architectural detail or were displeased with the proposed eight foot walls screening the parking lot. Despite HARB Chair Paul Weaver's almost desperate efforts to ram through a vote in favor of an "opinion of appropriateness," HARB members Duncan, Roark and Wingo stood firm. Well done them!

It will come back to HARB on April 20th and likely delay the related rezoning request's return to PZB (previously scheduled for April 4th).

Unfortunately, HARB feels no need to meet the requirements of City Code Division 3 Section 28-87 paragraph (2) which states that HARB will, “Participate in the adoption of existing codes, ordinances, procedures and programs to reflect policies and goals designed to conserve historic districts” (emphasis added). By Code, HARB is charged with conserving our HP districts.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

Since the developer wants to rezone three parcels from Historic Preservation District 5 (HP-5) to Planned Unit Development and nobody on the HARB expressed any concern about the elimination of 20% of HP-5 for the hotel and its proposed parking lots, one could conclude that HARB doesn't fully understand its duty to conserve HP districts.

Anyone else find it odd that the same group of very dedicated and intelligent people who will put some poor applicant through the ringer for an hour over whether a window sash should have four or six glass panes, doesn't even blink when a hotel developer solicits their help in eliminating 6% of a historic preservation district?

I mean, how does rezoning HP-5 to PUD equal conserving HP?

Curious.

What is odd Lee is that it is common knowledge in this community that we have a crooked Sheriff, DAVID BERNARD SHOAR, who is the collusive butt boy of the business community and that collusion has destroyed the 'rule of law' and denied justice to Michelle O'Connell for over seven years now and you still have an expectation that the 'rule of law' will be adhered to.

What is odd Lee is that with a 'pussy grabbing', 'punch them in the face', misogynistic, racist, homophobic, Muslim hating, fear mongering fascist loser in the WHITE house you still appear to believe in the fantasy of representative democracy when in fact the operative system is crumbunism that manifests in pretendunism.

What is odd Lee is your expectation that the 'rule of law' is to be adhered to and that "very dedicated and intelligent people" can not be elite biased, self serving, have skewed priorities, are deceptive, and their real God is the ka-ching of cash registers...

Warren - all very good points! But what value did you add to Lee's discussion or his attempt to police HARB?

The answer is zero...zero value. Spouting witty observation from the hill top down to use poor huddling masses does not but take up and waste O2 for the rest of us.

So let me ask Warren...what are you doing to improve society besides making neato observations as to how messed up everything is?

Anonymous, thank you for your attention.

Why does one ask questions that they think they know the answers to?

Knock on the sky and listen to the sound.
