Hurricane Dorian is forecast to become a Category 4 hurricane as it approaches the Florida coast this holiday weekend.
The National Hurricane Center uses various models to help predict where a storm could go. The map below shows some of the models that were used to forecast Hurricane Dorian’s path. The differences among the models illustrate the uncertainty in predicting the path of the storm days in advance.

The Center warned that Hurricane Dorian’s slow motion when it is near Florida could lead to risks of prolonged strong winds, dangerous storm surge and heavy rainfall. Pounding rains might force the release of polluted waters into fragile estuaries, which could lead to toxic algae blooms.
