Graceless Gargoyles, Be Gone!

Ex-City Manager WILLIAM BRUCE HARRISS' louche lackeys and golfing gaggle --- ex-Mayor JOSEPH LESTER BOLES, Jr. and Commissioner DONALD W. CRICHLOW used their departing speeches to be graceless last night at their last City Commission meeting. Mayor BOLES refused to shake the hand of incoming Mayor Nancy Shaver, who was sworn in by Florida Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince. How gauche.
Meanwhile, ex-Mayor CLAUDE LEONARD WEEKS, Jr. cut in line, and BOLES' no-bid 81 St. George Street City lease business partner and law client left in a huff, along with a small gaggle of BOLES supporters.
City staff failed to make enough chairs available, and when I complained about it, after repeatedly raising the issue, an alcohol-smelling City of St. Augustine Public Affairs Director PAUL WILLIAMSON stuck his face in my face at 5 PM, and WILLIAMSON's assistant gargoyle, WANDA BRAY, slammed and locked an anteroom door in my face, leaving my briefcase inside.
The Unwelcome Wagon was still in evidence in its last hours before our new Mayor was sworn in by Justice Quince.
Mayor BOLES and his loutish, loudmouth bunch of grotesque gargoyles and crony capitalist cronies are guilty, guilty, guilty of gross insensitivity and neglect, and possibly of federal crimes, which must now be investigated and prosecuted.
These unjust stewards perpetrated injustice on a city-wide scale.
They perpetrated racism and environmental racism.
They disrespected human, civil and environmental rights.
They voted to let ROBERT MICHAEL GRAUBARD destroy a 3000-4000 year old Indian monument just north of St. Augustine High School, for a strip mall.
They demolished historic buildings, some illegally.
They killed trees.
They surrendered repeatedly to Flagler College's massive development.
They used PUDs to inflict massive ugly buildings.
They gave themselves and their cronies no-bid leases and contracts.
They disdained public scrutiny, Sunshine and Open Records laws.
They threatened and arrested people for First Amendment protected activity. They criminalized art and music on St. George Street.
They illegally dumped sewage and solid waste.
They discriminated against African-Americans and Gays.
They showed disrespect to customers and citizens.
They made a pig's breakfast of our Nation's Oldest City.
They sold favors to vendors and developers. They behaved with malice, misfeasance, nonfeasance and malfeasance, waste, fraud, abuse, flummery, dupery and nincompoopery.
They remind me of Jimmy Breslin's books, "The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight" and "How The Good Guys Finally Won."
Forgive them.
Pray for their souls.
But don't ever forget what they did -- as my mother always said, "Time wounds all heels."
Let the gargoyles go in peace.
Let the healing begin.
Let fact-finding support policy changes.
It's our money, our city and our time.
"Decisions are made by those who show up."
What do y'all reckon?
Cheers,
Ed Slavin
