URGENT re: QUESTIONS FOR ALL ST. JOHNS COUNTY ATTORNEY JOB APPLICANTS

By 3-2 vote on December 3, 2024, our St. Johns County Commissioners agreed to a proper search for County Attorney.  Incredible as it may seem, two (2) Commissioners opposed it. The incumbent County Attorney Ad Interim, RICHARD KOMANDO, was hired on the spot because then-Commissioner ROY ALYRE ALAIMO, JR. said to hire KOMANDO because he was his "friend."  New Year's resolution: Let's make St. Johns County a meritocracy, more like Rev. John Winthrop's and President Ronald Reagan's "shining city on a hill." Let's work zealously to advertise and recruit a qualified County Attorney.  We need a statesman in the spirit of Republican statesman Elihu Root, former Secretary of War and Secretary of State, who had the respect, courage and independence to advise his corporate and governmental clients, "You're damned fools and you should stop!" No more developer doormats or mediocrities, please.  Here's the e-mail I sent to Commissioners on December 6, 2024:

Dear SJC Commission Chair Joseph, Vice Chair Murphy and Commissioners Taylor, Whitehurst and Arnold:
In hiring our next St. Johns County Attorney, let's start with the same questions and sworn answers for all candidates, following the examples (at links below) of the questions that our U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and our Florida 7th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission ask persons seeking judgeships.  Would you please be so kind as to vote at our December 17, 2024 St. Johns County Commission meeting to direct Human Resources to advertise the position in a Florida Bar Journal display ad and ? to use these standard questions as a model, adding any other questions to be designated by our Commissioners after hearing citizen suggestions?
We need to hire the next County Attorney based on merit and ethics, not political influence.
Never again should we hire somone without a background investigation, without an application. Never again shouild we hire someone because they're a County Commissioner's "friend."
Thank you.

We need someone good to defend the county against state government fascists, local bamboozlers, and federal government trolls. A local bamboozler wouldn't be a good fit. Hopefully they make the right choice.

That's corruption... buying jobs and seats in government. Only a matter of time before this comes to localities.
