Fifty foot tall hotels delayed, may be rejected again

Efforts to turn U.S. 1 (Ponce de Leon Blvd) into what PZB member architect Jerry Dixon "canyons" resembling "Daytona Beach" were postponed April 7 until May 5.
Seeking approval for what he claims would be a Hyatt, hotelier Farid Ashdji accused Dixon of retaliating because he did not hire Dixon as his architect, as he did on other projects.
Citizen opposition led City Commissioners January 26, 2015 to overrule PZB and to reject, 5-0, two 70 foot hotels and a proposed Planned Unit Development.
Controversial Visitor and Convention Bureau CEO and Executive Director RICHARD GOLDMAN was heard outside that Commission meeting as referring to Commissioners and their decision as "foolish."
PZB member Cathy Brown muttered that Mayor Nancy Shaver had been "playing to the crowd." BOLESIAN Brown is rumored to be running for something next year; she ran once for County Commission and was defeated.
