DRAFT Ed Slavin Statement, St. Johns County Commission, August 4, 2026

Five years ago, St. Johns County Commissioners voted 5-0 to allow private equity to take over their tenant, the Bayview skilled nursing facility.

May we have it back, please?

The Bible teaches that the love of money is the root of all evil.

Our then-Commissioners expressed the hope that private equity would "make a profit."

They did.  Wink, wink, know what they mean?

How much?

At what human cost?

Please disclose records.

Private equity eliminate 401ks or matching for skilled nursing facility employees.

Gone with the windbags who voted for private equity, I reckon.

Physical therapists threatened with firing if they provide "too much" physical therapy.

Sick.

No more barber or beautician services for six months.

Hence, my lookin' like a mountain man.

Shame on one-party rule and five fetid Commissioners who privatized Bayview  -- Whitehurst, Blocker, Dean, Waldron, and Smith.

Pray for them!

Louche legislators and lobbyists push -- hard --  for private equity to exploit seniors' Medicare and Medicaid dollars.

Read the book PLUNDER -- Private Equity's Plan to Pillage America, by lawyer Brendan Ballou.

He documents how billionaires are ruining our health care, stealing our homes, clearcutting our forests and mucking with our future. It does't have to be that way.

Let us all work together to fight corruption.  It's our time, our town, our county and our country.

BTW, I'm Ed Slavin and I'm running for Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County, seat 2.

Remember to vote for me, please,  in the General Election, on or before November 3, 2026.

I've lived in St. Johns County since 1999.

My father helped liberate the first French town from Nazi Germany on D-Day, before the sun even rose that day.  My Dad got malaria in Sicily and it took my Mom and Dad twelve years to have their only child, praying to St. Jude.  The chances of my being born were one in 100,000.

Let's control pestiferous mosquitoes, protect public health and liberate Bayview from greed.

It's up to us.
