The Honorable William Elbridge Davis, Chief Judge of the 8th Judicial Circuit, from Gainesville, has been assigned to preside at the trial of the criminal case of State of Florida v. SARAH SALLEY ARNOLD, CHRISTIAN GREGORY WHITEHURST, DYLAN RUMRELL, et al.
Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice John C. Couriel's July 27, 2026 Order states:
WHEREAS, it officially has been made known to me that it is
necessary to the dispatch of business of the SEVENTH JUDICIAL
CIRCUIT COURT OF FLORIDA that a judge be temporarily assigned
to duty in that court to hear the cases of:
State of Florida vs. Brianna M. Jordan,
Case Number: 2026-000985-CFMA;
State of Florida vs. Sarah S. Arnold,
Case Number: 2026-000985-CFMB;
State of Florida vs. Jamie L. Johnson,
Case Number: 2026-000985-CFMC;
State of Florida vs. Dylan A. Rumrell,
Case Number: 2026-000985-CFMD;
State of Florida vs. Christian G. Whitehurst,
Case Number: 2026-000985-CFME;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN D. COURIEL, under authority
vested in me as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Florida,
under article V, section 2 of the Constitution of Florida and the
rules of this Court promulgated thereunder, do hereby assign and
designate THE HONORABLE WILLIAM E. DAVIS, CHIEF JUDGE,
from the EIGHTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT COURT OF FLORIDA, to
proceed as an acting Circuit Judge of the SEVENTH JUDICIAL
CIRCUIT COURT OF FLORIDA to hear, conduct, try, and determine
the above causes, which shall be presented to the judge asa
temporary judge of said court, and thereafter to dispose of all
matters considered by the judge in said causes, including issues of
fees and costs arising out of said causes, but excluding other
matters subsequently raised that are collateral to said causes.
JUDGE DAVIS, under and by virtue of the authority hereof, is
hereby vested with all and singular the powers and prerogatives
conferred by the Constitution and laws of the State of Florida upon
a judge of the court to which the judge is hereby assigned.
DONE AND ORDERED at Tallahassee, Florida, on July 27,

Here is the biography of Judge William Elbridge Davis from the Criminal Law Section of The Florida Bar:
Bio:
Judge Davis was appointed as a county judge for Alachua County in 2006 and served in both criminal and civil assignments. Elected as a circuit judge for the Eighth Judicial Circuit in 2008 (re-elected in 2014), He is currently serving a criminal assignment for Alachua, Levy and Gilchrist counties. His previous circuit assignments include Delinquency, Dependency, Family and Civil. Former statewide committees include the Steering Committee for Family & Children in Court for the Florida Supreme Court; Court Interpreter Certification Committee (chair); and the Executive Committee for the Conference of Circuit Judges. Judge Davis is a former prosecutor, special public defender and adjunct law professor at the University of Florida College of Law. He graduated from the University of Florida Law School and earned his B.A. from the University of Arizona. Judge Davis is a former U.S. Army officer who served with the 24th Infantry Division during combat operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Judge Davis previously served in law enforcement for over two years as a dispatcher, correctional officer (Hernando and Sumter County Sheriff’s Offices) and later as a police officer with the Leesburg Police Department.
