City of St. Augustine Public Affairs Director PAUL WILLIAMSON is incompetent:
1. Missing a deadline for a National Park Service technical assistance with global ocean rise and visioning.
2. Failing to issue press releases on City achievements and progressive victories (Gay rights measures).
3. Issuing press releases with incomplete or erroneous information (wrong dates and times).
4. Failing to call the Wolffburgs to assist with analyzing responses to the city's visioning survey.
5. Failing to respond to Open Records requests.
6. Inviting an Orlando high school band to play in the Easter Parade on the wrong date, resulting in their playing in the Slave Market Square on Easter Monday (carried on Jacksonville TV news).
7. Inviting people to attend the British Night Watch on three days, when only one day was correct (resulting in our missing it one year).
8. Being the doormat for the Chamber of Commerce and others wanting to run artists and musicians off St. George Street -- the only reason he was ever hired.
9. Telephoning Margo Pope during City COmmission meetings on his cell phones, loudly putting down those of us activists who halted the City's illegal dumping in West Augustine and Lincolnville (yes, PAUL WILLIAMSON, we could hear you, meeting after meeting!)
10.Wasting $500,000/year budget for Public Affairs.
11. Failing to be an Ombuds for people with questions about City policies.
12. Failing to reach out to neighborhoods and individuals.
13. Failing to publicize the City's recent progressive achievements, including the Journey exhibit on 450 years of African-American history.
14. Failing to recruit diverse musicians for the City's concerts in the park.
15. Making phony economic justification for noisy, noisome motorcycles being given free parking around our Slave Market Square for two weeks each year, while wasting some $10,000 in parking garage revenue.
16. Being unfriendly to citizens and city staff.
17. Missing opportunities to generate travel articles -- there has not been an article about the City of St. Augustine in the New York Times travel section since Sepember 5, 2003.
18. Showing a languid, passive, passive-aggressive stance -- he doesn't accomplish anything of substance.
19. Being unable to answer my written questions about what he does all day.
What do y'all reckon? PAUL WILLIAMSON has encumbered this position for fourteen (14) years. He was brought in at the behest of the right-wing Chamber of Commerce, for which he was a hatchet man, for the sole purpose of justifying City moves to oppress artists and musicians on St. George Street. That policy has failed. Businesses are hurting because people miss the artists and musicians.
St. George Street is an embarrassment. Many of the most intriguing stores are gone, replaced by tacky-tawdry t-shirt stores and Georgia-redneck tourist-oriented specialty stores (e.g, selling only French fries or only popcorn)(I kid you not!)
PAUL WILLIAMSON is an embarrassment.
It is time for PAUL WILLIAMSON to GO!
