Shaver sees through ‘new eyes’
Editor: I first became acquainted with Nancy Shaver through letters to the editor she wrote to shed light on several issues being debated in our city. I was struck by her exhaustive research, together with her straightforward, objective reporting of the facts. Her work was instrumental in helping citizens better understand these issues, and likely led to better decisions by our elected leaders. Now Shaver is a candidate for mayor. In mounting a challenge to our four-term, incumbent mayor, Nancy has put forward ideas on ways that we may increase our city’s revenues without raising property taxes on residents and businesses. She has suggested how we can reframe our tourist industry to build on our culture and heritage. She has placed a high priority on strong neighborhoods, better traffic control and improved infrastructure. While most of these ideas were first floated by Shaver, recently we have heard many of them echoed by her opponent. If these are good ideas now, why weren’t they good ideas eight years ago, or six years, or four? Sometimes it requires “new eyes” to see old problems. The absolute worst reason I can imagine to justify voting for a candidate is the declaration, “He is one of us!” If Nancy Shaver works half as hard in the mayor’s office as she has to earn our votes, city government will be examined through new eyes and our city will be energized, revitalized and better positioned to create a better future for all.

Will she collect the pigdebt and payback all of the aggrieved in the city, or will she just fix their roads for them?
Will she start a museum of greed and tyranny to celebrate the city's real culture and heritage?
People who vote are the problem.
