St. Augustine on Conde Nast Traveller "Best U.S. Small Cities" List (Number 9)

9/15

St. Augustine, Florida

St. Augustine bills itself as the oldest city in the country, and its architecture certainly backs up that claim: Pay a visit to the Castillo de San Marcos, a 17th-century Spanish stone fortress; or the Lightner Museum, housed in the historic Hotel Alcazar building, for a spin through its history. Looking for a sand-and-surf escape? Try Crescent or St. Augustine beaches.

St. Augustine (population 14,000) made number 9 on the Conde list of Best U.S. Small Cities, after Charleston (SC), Aspen (CO), Santa Fe (NM), Laguna Beach (CA), Savannah (GA), Park City (UT), Telluride (CO) and Carmel-by-the-Sea (CA).

Ahead of Asheville (NC), Burlington (VT), Jackson (WY), Sedona (AZ), Key West (FL and Sarasota (FL).

How do you like them apples?

Looking for a night in a jail cell? Try painting a picture on fascist Saint George Street.
