Editor: The Record's editorial Wednesday, "Return Mica to Congress," says "we see no reason for voters not to re-elect (John) Mica on Nov. 4." I see quite a few reasons to elect Faye Armitage instead.

The first is energy policy and protecting the environment. Mica has voted often against environmental legislation during his 16 years in Congress. He earned a "5" out of a possible "100" (the lowest score of any member) from the League of Conservation Voters. The second is veterans benefits. Even though Mica supports the Iraq war, according to the Disabled American Veterans, he supported veterans benefits less than half the time.

The third is policies that help the "middle class." According to www.themiddleclass.org, which analyzes the impact of legislation on current and aspiring middle class citizens, Mica received an "F" score for his 2007, 2005, 2004 votes and a "D" in 2003 and year-to-date 2008. (2006 votes were not scored.)

Your editorial lists "projects" Mica has brought to our area. He is bringing home some "pork" but is this a good thing? One reason the federal budget is out of control is because all 535 members of Congress get earmarks for their districts.

Armitage, an economist and former professor, is needed in Congress during this economic crisis.

Her son was paralyzed at a young age in a soccer accident so she knows our current health care system fails many families.

She supports alternative energy, environmental protection and getting U.S. soldiers out of Iraq within the next 18 months. Her son-in-law is in Iraq. Look at www.fayeforcongress.com for more information.

The power of incumbency is strong. But being in Congress was not meant to be a permanent position. Mica has been part of the "Bush rubberstamp Congress."

Vote Armitage for Florida's 7th congressional district.
