Nathaniel Pryor Reed, R.I.P.

Nixon's Assistant Secretary of the Interior, helped stop Cross-Florida Barge Canal boondoggle, helped stop airport that would have destroyed the Everglades, deserves to have new Lake O reservoir named for him, and a commemorative postage stamp, too. Wonderful man and great role model for environmental and historic preservation activists. In 2009, Nat Reed faxed me a letter,  encouraging our nascent efforts on behalf of the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore, first proposed by St. Augustine Mayor Walter Frayser in 1939.  Nat Reed will be greatly missed.
