President John F. Kennedy said, "Sometimes party loyalty demands too much."
Why did someone issue a St. Johns County Democratic Voter Guide omitting a Democratic candidate for Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County who earned 55,640 votes last year and was endorsed by the SJC DEC?

"Sometimes party loyalty demands too much!" (President John F. Kennedy).
Good morning:1. JFK's United Nation's Ambassador, Adlai Stevenson, said, "As scarce as truth is, the supply seems greater than the demand,."2. Putative 2026 St Johns County Democratic Voter Guide is not a "guide" at all. It fails to list both Democratic candidates for Anastasia Mosquito 5 Control District of St. Johns County, seat 2. Wh3. Was this putative "guide" ever approved by the State Democratic Party? SeeF.S. 106.081. Please provide documents.3. Please respond to my earlier e-mails and calls today.4. My parents, my family and my own life on this frail planet were all greatly impacted by mosquito-born disease. My late father contracted malaria in Sicily in 1943, as an 82nd ABN DIVN paratrooper. The South Jersey Chapter of the 82nd ABN DIVN. ASSN., Inc. is named the "CPL Edward A. Slavin Chapter" in honor of my Father, who helped liberate the first French town from Hitler on June 6, 1944, before the sun even rose that day. My parents married at Fort Benning on September 19, 1945, shortly after V-J Day. It then took my parents twelve years to have their only child (me) as a result of my Father suffering malaria. I did not learn to talk until I was three years old, My Mother told me that the chances of my being born were less than one in 100,000. As a resident of St. Johns County since 1999, I have been an effective advocate for environmentally safe, cost-effective and honest Mosquito Control for 20 years. SJC DEC endorsed me in 2024. Yet you refuse to answer my telephone messages and e-mails. There is no excuse or defense for SJC DEC's 2026 Voter Guide Debacle.5. In 2006-2007, We, the PeopleI helped halt the Anastasias Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County's blatant illegal purchase of a non-bid $1.8 million helicopter. The Board unanimously rejected the contract. We, the People got a full refund of our 10% deposit.6. In 2024, I helped expose the District's illegal $1000 Christmas bonuses to Board members in blatant violation of the Florida State law pay cap of $4800 on Mosquito Control District board members. The illegal spending was reversed by Board vote.7. The St. Johns County Democratic Executive Committee rightly endorsed me for a seat on AMCD in 2024, when I received some 55,640 votes countywide.8. Kindly remedy SJC DEC's putative 2026 "Voter Guide," its wrongfully excluding me from any mention, and its inexplicable putative endorsement of a possible cat's paw candidate closely associated with our Mosquito Control District management, whose maladroit Commissioners voted themselves illegal $1000 bonuses and purchased an illegal no-bid helicopter in 2006, only to reverse themselves on both issues.9. An allegedly illegal St. Johns County 2024 Republican Voter Guide has resulted in state court criminal charges in 2026, awaiting felony and misdemeanor charges, a stench in the nostrils of our State Nation.9. To save face, please list both of the Democratic candidates for AMCD seat 2 in the SJC DEC Voter Guide. Then let the people decide..Thank you. With kindest regards, I am,Sincerely yours,Ed SlavinBox 3084St. Augustine, Florida 32085-3084(904) 377-4998On Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 07:00:57 PM EDT, Ed Slavin <easlavin@aol.com> wrote:Good evening:1. Would you please be so kind as to e-mail me PDFs or links to our SJC Democratic Platform?2. I fondly remember when I was Parliamentarian how the late Roger van Ghent, former Democratic candidate for County Commission, helped to lead our SJC DEC's efforts on developing it.3. Where is it?4. I don't find it on our SJC DeC website.5. Please restore this basic SJC DEC policy document to its rightful place of honor,Thank you! With kindest regards, I am,Sincerely yours,Ed SlavinBox 3084St. Augustine, Florida 32085-3084www.edslavin.com(904) 377-4998On Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 04:42:43 PM EDT, Ed Slavin <easlavin@aol.com> wrote:Dear Florida Democratic Chair Fried and St. Johns County Democratic Chair Jennings:I left messages for you both yesterday. Please call me by close of business today.1. Thank you for your fine work leading the Florida Democratic Party and St. Johns County Democratic Party. I have been a Democrat since boyhood, when my Mother and Father both explained to me what it means to be a Democrat. And when I was learning to swim, my Mother said, "last one in is a dirty rotten Republican!" (My Irish-German Grandmother said the same thing to my Mother when she was a little girl growing up in Philadelphia, Philadelphia.)2. Query: Who decided on St. Johns County Democratic Executive Committee endorsements? Was our St. Johns County Democratic Executive Committee authorized to issue a "voter guide" for 2026? Why does it mysteriously exclude me from its list of Democratic candidates for Anastasia Mosquito Control District (AMCD) of St. Johns County, seat 2? SJC DEC endorsed me in 2024. I received some 55,640 votes. Why no endorsement in 2026? Why the secrecy? Cui bono? Who benefits? As Henry Kissinger yelled after to a questionable referee call at a Washington football game, "on vot theory?"3. I have lived in St. Augustine since November 5, 1999. I have been an advocate for environmental protection, whistleblower right s, government reform, environmental protection, whistleblower and Gay rights for decades.4. The 2026 SJC Voter Guide lists only one person for AMCD seat 2. She has never run for office here.5. What's going on here? Please explain it to me. I am mystified as to why I was not endorsed in 2026, as I was in 2024. Please explain it to me, "like I was a six year old."6. Is this yet another unforced error by our SJC DEC, which actually endorsed homophobic ex-convict stalker Merrill Paul Roland for County Commissioner, and then quickly withdrew the endorsement? (He has recently sent out e-mails triumphing in DEC's failure to list me in its 2026 Voter Guide.) https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2013/12/sapd-wins-conviction-100-day-jail-term.html. https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2008/01/judge-merrill-roland-guilty.html7. By way of background, at age 17.5, I went to work for three Democratic Senators as an undergraduate at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service (Senators Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart and Jim Sasser). On August 29, I volunteered to work as freshman and sophomore year for Senator Ted Kennedy, commencing the day before my first class, when I walked in to EMK's mailroom in the Russell Senate Office Building with a former Navy SEAL, Terrence McShane. https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2025/08/feast-of-saint-augustine-august-28-1974.html8. Working with legislative assistant Mary Murtagh in Senator Ted Kennedy's office, we helped encourage development of jojoba, an oilseed crop that eliminated sperm whaling, saving tens of thousands of whales annually worldwide.9. As a fledgling journalist in 1978, I helped defeat coal slurry pipeline eminent domain legislation, protecting aquifers, farmers, ranchers and railroad workers.
10. With a small Fund for Investigative Journalism grant, I investigated Senator Howard Baker's strip miner associates' $300 million no-bid Tennessee Valley Authority coal contracts at the Kingston powerplant,. https://www.gao.gov/assets/emd-81-65.pdf.
11. As Appalachian Observer editor, I exposed a corrupt Courthouse crowd in Tennessee and helped send a corrupt Sheriff to federal prison for corruption and drug dealing.12. I clerked for two U.S. Department of Labor Administrative Law Judges, Charles P. Rippey and the late, great Chief Judge Nahum Litt. We helped persuade Congress to de-fund the Administrative Conference of the United States, 1995-2010, due to its right-wing administrative law policy recommendations to gut FOIA, gut Sunshine, and violate Administrative Law Judge independence.13. In Washington, D.C. and in St. Augustine, I helped advance the cause of Gay rights. I was counsel for the plaintiff in the landmark precedential case of Duane David Rinde v. Woodward Lothrop Co. 1989-1990, winning equal discount benefits for Gay partners.14. I was invited to write the first article in an American Bar Association publication on Gay Marriage (Human Rights Magazine, 1991).15. In St. Augustine, I wrote about my historic and legal research on the 1566 hate crime murder of a Gay French interpreter of the Guale Indian language, which was ordered by the Founder of St. Augustine, Pedro Menendez de Aviles. I then helped Rev. Ruth Jensen, her wife Elizabeth Forbell, and the National Lesbian Rights Foundation win a federal court TRO requiring Rainbow flags to fly on our historic Bridge of Lions from June 8-13, 2005, a major First Amendment victory in a case that was decided by U.S. District Court Judge Henry Lee Adams, Jr. https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2013/06/in-words-of-former-south-african_26.html16. Here in St. Augustine, I have helped guide candidates and won progressive victories since shortly after the late David Brian Wallace and I moved to St. Johns County on November 5, 1999.17. We, the People elected Mayor Nancy Shaver in 2014.18. I was honored to represent environmental, nuclear and trucking whistleblowers, including an EPA Inspector General Criminal Investigator who helped establish a precedent for all environmental crimes investigators.19. My Father helped liberate the first French town from the Nazis on June 6, 1944, before the sun even rose that day. My Dad taught me, as JFK's, RFK's and EMK's Father taught them, that you have to stand up to people with power or else they walk all over you. My Father got malaria in Sicily in 1943, bitten by a mosquito from malarial swamps. My parents married on September 19, 1945. It took my parents twelve years after they were married at Fort Benning to have their only child, after one miscarriage. Mom took heavy DES doses. She said the chances of my being born were less than one in 100,000, due to the devastating effects of malaria on human reproduction. I did not talk until I was three years old; some thought I was retarded. My interest in mosquito control is lifelong and rooted in my family's unique history. I was proud to have the St. Johns County Democratic Party endorsement in 2024. I am mystified at to the etiology of the 2026 SJC DEC Voter Guide Debacle, endorsing only one of the Democrats running for seats 2 of AMCD. This appears unseemly, and may be illegal, as there were no interviews and no principled reason exists for the SJC DEC's ukse. Please call me today to discuss.20. Here in corrupt one-party developer-dominated ruled St. Johns County, I helped The New York Times and PBS Frontline investigate the murder of Ms. Michelle O'Connell, murdered by her Sheriff's deputy boyfriend on September 2, 2010. https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2024/09/september-2-2010.html.21. I was called an "environmental hero" by Folio Weekly editor Anne Schindler for exposing City of St. Augustine dumping of a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir) in African-American West Augustine community.22. On May 17, 1983, I won declassification of the world's largest mercury pollution event in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2025/05/may-17-1983-worlds-largest-mercury.html I then was interviewed by Congressional investigators and testified before then-Rep. Al Gore about it on July 11, 1983, calling for criminal prosecution of U.S. Department and Union Carbide Y-12 nuclear weapons plant managers. https://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2025/07/july-11-1983-al-gores-mercury-pollution.html23. We, the People have won dozens of community public interest victories here for historic preservation, decency and democracy. We halted 15th Amendment and Voting Rights Act violations involving early voting locations.24. We've exposed illegal Mosquito Control District purchase of a no-bid $1.8 million luxury helicopter, winning a refund of the District's 10% deposit.25. Following up on my disclosures, WJCT News (NPR affiliate) reporter Noah Hertz covered Mosquito Control District Board's unseemly unanimous vote to award themselves illegal Christmas bonuses exceeding statutory $4800 annual pay cap.26. What is my Democratic opponent's relationship with AMCD and its Mosquito Museum? Volunteer or paid? Encouraged to run by AMCD?27. Working with witnesses and video, I exposed the City of St. Augustine for dumping a landfill in a lake, resulting in FDEP consent orders to clean it up.28. We've helped remedy corruption, civil rights violations and whistleblower discrimination.29. I've lived here sine 1999. As Archimedes said, "Give me a place to stand and I will move the world."30. Please explain and remedy the SJC DEC's 2026 Voter Guide Debacle.31. Please call me today to discuss the SJC DEC voter guide, which oddly omits my name for Seat 2, Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County.Thank you. With kindest regards, I am,Sincerely yours,Ed SlavinBox 3084St. Augustine, Florida 32085-3084(904) 377-4998
