- Previous "No Kings" protests in June and October 2025 drew millions of participants across thousands of events.
Another round of "No Kings" protests is set for this weekend, with organizers and participants pushing back on what they call "authoritarian policies" pushed by President Donald Trump.
The upcoming demonstrations will be the third major nationwide “No Kings” protest since last June, on Trump's 79th birthday. Organizers say the day of action is intended to highlight what they describe as rising threats to families and communities.
“On March 28, we will come together to show that our communities reject corruption, senseless war, and division,” MoveOn Civic Action Executive Director Katie Bethell said in a press release. “Instead, we welcome immigrants, believe in the rule of law, and stand up for an economy that works for everyone. More of us than ever before will rise up, because America does not belong to strongmen or those who rule through fear. It belongs to us, the people."
What are the 'No Kings' protests about?
The name "No Kings" comes from protest organizers' belief that Trump is acting like a monarch rather than a democratic leader, the site states.
“When our families are under attack, and costs are pushing people to the brink, silence is not an option. We will defend ourselves and our communities against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence.”
"As President Trump escalates his attempts to control us, it is on us, the people, to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country," the website also states. "If he believes we will roll over and allow him to take our freedoms, he is mistaken."
In June 2025, more than 5 million people took to the streets at more than 2,100 events on the coalition's first day of action, according to the organization. The protest occurred on Trump's 79th birthday and sought to counteract the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary parade, which they said was held to "feed his ego."
ater in October 2025, more than 7 million people participated in 2,700 protests. According to USA TODAY, the protests were meant as a celebration of free speech, the right to assemble and the First Amendment broadly.
